Eleanor Segall Mandelstam

Author, Award-Winning Blogger

Eleanor Mandelstam (nee Segall), MA (Hons), is an author, award-winning mental health blogger, freelance writer, mental health advocate and speaker. Her mission is to write to increase understanding and end the stigma that mental illness has.

She has lived with bipolar disorder and anxiety since being diagnosed at age 16 in 2004 (which runs in her family). Her book ‘Bring me to Light: Embracing my Bipolar and Social Anxiety’ about her life with bipolar 1 disorder and recovery after hospitalisations, with Trigger Publishing, was published globally in 2019.

It is about finding light in the dark and hope where there often is none and is recommended by the charity Bipolar UK.

Eleanor has written for Metro.co.uk, Glamour, Happiful, The Telegraph, Huffington Post UK, The Counselling Directory, The Jewish Chronicle and Jewish News (amongst many others) and has blogged for many mental health charities.

She has been featured in Cosmopolitan UK, Elle UK, Prima and Yahoo News. Eleanor wrote an essay in the ‘Book of Hope: 101 Voices in Overcoming Adversity’ by Jonny Benjamin MBE and Britt Pfluger (Bluebird books) talking about life with bipolar.

Eleanor started her blog ‘Be Ur Own Light’ at www.beurownlight.com in March 2016 to raise awareness among friends and family of what life is like living with mental health and to emphasise how however difficult you can go on to live a happy and fulfilling life.

It has been awarded as a Top 10 UK mental health blog by Vuelio every year since 2018, which led to her writing her first book. Currently working in digital communications for Jewish Women’s Aid, Eleanor has degrees in English Literature and Drama from Goldsmiths University and a Master’s in Drama Education from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She is an avid reader, writer (and musical theatre lover).
